Fishing in Napa, CA
Napa River meanders through downtown Napa, and forms a tidal estuary, entering Mare Island Strait, and eventually discharging into San Pablo Bay. The river holds a healthy population of Stripped Bass, and White Sturgeon, which are the most popular fish species to target. The water is brackish, and the best time to fish the river is with the incoming tide when cleaner, better-oxygenated ocean water enters the system. The tides also bring a variety of food sources for both Striper and Sturgeon.
If you are staying in Napa and just want to grab a pole and a few lures or bait to enjoy a peaceful time fishing nearby, Napa River is the perfect place for you. In many cases, you can simply walk from your hotel or Airbnb, or grab a short Uber/Lyft ride to get to the fishing spot. Technically speaking, you can fish anywhere on the river, where not expressly forbidden, and have a chance to hook into a Stripped Bass of various sizes. From 10-13 inch schoolies to a 30lb monster.
