Fishing Report

Napa River

The Napa River is still producing a good Striper bite. With the cooler weather, the water temps are starting to drop, and as they drop, we will traditionally see a slower bite. You can still catch fish, but you have to slow down your presentation. Trolling and covering water is the key to success right now. Trolling a variety of baits from Rattle Traps to Broken Backs can produce fish. We make and sell a version of a Broken Back that is called the Wild Thing, and it flat catches stripers. We basically take a Pline Predator and remove the back treble hook and slide a squid tail over the back followed by a single hook on a swivel. Then we tip the single hook with a Zoom trick worm. We can show you all the components to build your own or just buy the completed lure. If you don't like trolling, then cover ground with a LV 500 or your favorite swimbait. Casting at all the levee breaks or in the sloughs on an outgoing tide is still producing stripers. The bank anglers are catching decent numbers of fish on Anchovies and Sardines, with an occasional keeper thrown in the mix. Overall, we are getting reports of good numbers and fish up to 8 lbs being caught. For those of you trying your luck on Sturgeon, there is a bite out there. Traditional shrimp baits in the south end of the river can produce a fish.

Lake Berryessa

Lake Berryessa is seeing a good Bass bite right now. The Fall bite is in full swing. There are a lot of different ways to catch fish right now. Spooning around the bait balls and river channels is always a great way to produce bass, but just about all the finesse techniques will catch fish. I always love to cover water with a LV 500 and search out the remaining weed beds. You can also throw spinner baits, and Chatterbaits to trigger those shallow fish. With the water temps and water level dropping, the trout and the king salmon bite has been sporadic lately. Trolling near the surface to 50' can produce a bite. As we go through November with cooler temps look for trout to start chasing bait up near the surface, and with that the live minnow bite will take off. We will keep you update when we start getting reports of this happening. Until then keep trolling with Speedy Shinners, Kastmaster, or a variety of Spinner and dodger combos. With the dropping water levels launching is becoming more and more difficult. For now, we hear the Putah Creek launch is still available on the North end, and Spanish Flat and Steel Park on the south end remain open.

Lake Hennessey

The Lake Hennessey/Conn Dam boat launch remains open and water levels are actually in pretty good shape. We are getting some decent reports of bass being caught here. Crawdad pattern deep cranks, jigs or plastics on the rock walls and piles are producing some fish. Also, try a Keitech Swim bait on an underspin. We have been getting a few good reports of bluegill being caught recently as well. This might be a good opportunity to have the kids catch a few. Try redworms or meal worms for the panfish. No reports of trout or crappie being caught.

Outdoor Report

Duck Season is a couple weeks in, and from all reports it's been a tough start for most. However, if you are hunting the Grizzley Island, Suisun Marsh complex you have seen a pretty good start to the season. The clubs and refugees with tidal influence have plenty of water and feed to support the duck populations right now. The Sacramento Valley clubs, and refugees have had a tough start due to lack of water to flood the fields. There is also a huge percentage of fields that never had water to grow rice this year, so this is greatly impacting the duck hunters' chance of having a good year. Let's hope for more rain to help out the poor start to the season. If you need steel shot, we currently have 12ga #2's and 4's in stock.
