What's New in the Shop?
First cast:
Happy Thursday Friends,
The weekend is upon us and we have a lot to cover to help you get the most out of your next fishing trip.
Last weekend, the guys and I took on Lake Berryessa for a night adventure. Our mission: catfish and carp! Check out this quick clip to see if we reeled in some monsters:
We parked and launched at Markley Cove and cast about looking for a nice fishy cove to nose in and spend the night. After metering around with the sonar for an hour or so, we settled on a small cove that opened up to a larger inlet.

New Product Review - Katch Hook Keeper
Forget Dangling Hooks! This Gadget Changed My Fishing Game
A few months back, I stumbled upon Katch Hook Keeper at the Sacramento fishing show. Founder Kawika's innovative design instantly caught my eye (pun intended!). Since then, I've been putting it to the test on a couple of my rods, and let me tell you, it's a game-changer!
This isn't just another "fishing gizmo." It's a simple, affordable solution that will upgrade your fishing experience.

Level Up Your Trolling Game
Tired of fake strikes and missed bites? Conventional downrigger releases are notorious for frustration. They're either too sensitive, triggering constant false alarms, or so tight you miss the real deal. Either way, you're wasting precious time battling your equipment, not fish.
Enter the Chamberlain Release: Your Ticket to Trolling Nirvana. I've been a loyal Chamberlain user for over 2 years. Their releases deliver precise, hair-trigger action, ensuring you only fight the good fight – against the fish, not your gear.
A Tale of Two Downriggers: Recently, one of my Chamberlains met an unfortunate demise (thanks, downrigger ball!). Forced to use a conventional release on one rod, I was instantly reminded of the frustration it brings. The difference was night and day!
From Frustration to Innovation: My quest for a replacement Chamberlain led me straight to the source – Keith, the owner and inventor himself! We had a fascinating chat about downrigger technology, and guess what? Chamberlain Releases are now available at Sweeney's Sports and CatchHappy.co!
Watch the short interview with Keith Chamberlain and learn how to use and dial in your Chamberlain release (it's super simple).

Lake Berryessa Fishing Report
Trout fishing continues to be red hot. Trolling around Narrows and the Island using Speedy Shiners produces the best results. No flasher is needed. Direct tie the lure onto the swivel and backset 150-200 ft behind the boat. Use 8-10lb line and leaders for better action and to avoid break-offs. The water is still cold enough and these fish are large and feisty.
The successful anglers report fairly fast trolling speeds of 3 to 3.8 mph. Right now both trout and kings are mostly being caught in the top 25 feet of water. Try using Optimizer Junior lures as well. Some folks are reporting great results using both Speedy Shiners and Optimizer Juniors.
It's important to continue trying a variety of colors until you find what the fish are keying in on that day. Here are the 3 mistakes you should avoid and have a better day on the water than I did recently.
As always,
We truly appreciate every time you walk through our doors. Thank you for choosing to spend your hard-earned dollars with us. It's a privilege to be of service.
