What Not to Buy Your Wife for Valentine's Day

What's New in the Shop?

First cast:

Fishing and firearms are mostly complimentary businesses, however, if you are really into firearms and hunting, you may or may not want to read through fishing reports or watch our deep-dive fishing videos.

On the other hand, If you are into fishing, you may have a cursory interest in firearms, but you may not care about the latest roster additions, cool collectibles, hard-to-find arrivals, accessory reviews, or ammo specials.

As such, for those of you who'd like to go deeper into either gun shop or fishing we are creating ways to get the information you want in your inbox.

Second cast:

This week we posted this picture on social media asking folks to name this lure:

Third cast:

Striped bass, or "striper," fishing is a pursuit that demands a blend of skill, patience, and understanding of the fish's behavior. In this comprehensive guide, we delve into the art of striper trolling, exploring everything from equipment selection to tactics for maximizing your catch-ability.

Fourth cast:

Remember Frank from last week? As I pulled my boat on Saturday, Frank and I crossed paths at the Cuttings Warf. His newest trolling catch was this 22" beauty. Congrats Frank. You are properly hooked now :)

Fifth cast:

Live bait supply has been a challenge with all these rains. We are working hard to stock what we can.

Live Ghost Shrimp (arriving today)

XL Minnows

Live Grass (Maybe. Call the shop)

Live Bullheads/Mudsuckers (Maybe. Call the shop)

Fishing Reports

Napa River

We hear anglers are still getting stripers trolling the Wild Things, Aruku Shad, and Rat-L-Trap lures. However, they are harder to find. Slow down your troll to 3-3.5 mph, as the water is getting colder.

Anchoring up and bait fishing can be a good option. We marked a lot of Sturgeon in the system on Saturday and fished for them for a few hours. But the Catch Happy HQ main motor timing belt slipped and we had to cut our day short. However, we did end up pulling a couple of nice stripers on our bait-fishing sturgeon rigs. We used a combination of Live Ghost and Live Pile Worm.

Bank fishermen are doing well with live grass shrimp, pile worms, and frozen anchovies. Use the Magic Thread to keep your bait on the hook.

Sturgeon

All the rains bring Sturgeon into our river system. It's bait fishing time!

Use live Grass or Ghost Shrimp, Pile Worms, Salmon roe, or Eel threaded onto a barbless hook, wrapped with magic thread (twine), and terminated with a bait button.

It's important to keep your bait on the bottom with a 4-8 ounce pyramid sinker and, ideally, a weighted leader. We now make Custom Sturgeon Leaders here at the shop. Come and check them out. $5.99 apiece.

Lake Berryessa

Our friend and crappie lure supplier Marlin Carpenter with Closet Crappie Lures is putting this tourney together on Lake Berryessa. Check it out and sign up!

As always,

We truly appreciate every time you walk through our doors. Thank you for choosing to spend your hard-earned dollars with us. It's a privilege to be of service.
